It was developed to achieve two objectives – 1) De-restrict the turbo inlet paths. 2) Maintain low inlet temperatures. The first objective was met by providing each turbo with a separate filter and Venturi stack in order to reduce drag and allow the turbos to work more efficiently. The second objective was met by enclosing the filters inside a carbon airbox and feeding them with an additional scoop added behind the front grill. The C7 RS6\/RS7 engine bay has multiple heat sources from different directions so a simple configuration of open filters and shields would result in higher IAT values. Our carbon airbox enclosure has been designed to maximise the use of the available volume and block all sources of heat. This stage 3 intake system has been developed to offer the highest possible flow rate while maintaining the lowest intake temperatures possible. Each component has been designed to provide the turbo with a smooth and free flowing path. The intake tube has an internal diameter of 103mm or just over 4' and has a smooth curvature from the filter housing all the way to the turbo inlet. The filter itself has been specifically designed for this intake and has a huge outer diameter of 210mm or 8.3' with a filtration surface area of over 130,000mm^2. The patented Venturi housing has been designed to provide the maximum internal volume possible for the RS3 engine bay space available and provides laminar flow to the turbo tube. Finally the duct seals the filter opening to the front slam panel but is not restricted by just the stock entry feed. We have lifted the front of the duct to now provide an extra opening behind the hood which is equivalent to an extra 7' diameter hole for the intake to draw from. Since the airbox is positioned next to the exhaust manifold it is crucial for the filter to be fully sealed so we designed the airbox to encapsulate the filter and at the same time provide a large internal volume. To seal the intake tube we have designed a laser cut plate with a rubber sealing strip which secures to the airbox. The intake tube passes through the plate and the rubber seal ensures heated air does not enter the airbox. To further minimize heat soak, there is an additional heat shield with a gold reflective layer on the exhaust manifold side which effectively combats the radiant heat transfer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHaving a fully sealed airbox results in the problem of having a restriction for the cold air feed. The stock airbox draws air from a single duct which extends to the front bumper area. During development we identified another area to draw cold air from which was a gap between the wheel arch and the chassis on which the airbox sits. To utilize this feed we extended a scoop at the back of our design which protrudes into the wheel arch and can even be seen after installation behind the front wheel. This second feed allows the turbo to draw from a larger area therefore reducing the restriction.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe G20 B58 OEM airbox system was updated in cars built after November 2018 where the airflow sensor was replaced with a temperature sensor in the inlet tube. Prior to this date, all airbox systems had an airflow sensor and for this reason we offer 2 variations. The V1 intake which has an inlet tube to take the MAF (airflow) sensor and the V2 intake for cars built after November 2018 which use a temperature sensor. This however also adds the possibility of turbulence in the flow path as there are multiple faces which can cause eddies. We replace this with our carbon tube which is smooth and also has a larger internal volume. Unlike most aftermarket intakes we maximized the size of our intake tube, the OEM inlet tube has an internal diameter of 80.8mm or 3.2” at the filter end. Our tube for cars built after November 2018 has an internal diameter of 109mm or 4.3”. This equates to a massive 82% increase in cross sectional area over stock. The tube smoothly tapers down to the stock turbo inlet to ensure airflow remains as laminar as possible. The stock inlet is directly connected to the turbo and so immediately conducts heat as the turbo spools. Our system uses a machined flange which connects to the turbo and then a silicon coupler with an integrated thermal spacer to keep the carbon elbow from having direct contact with the turbo.
